PLANNING: WHY I CHOSE WARP

Warp Films is an independent film and television production company based in Sheffield & London. Warp Films was established by Warp Records founding partners Rob Mitchell and Steve Beckett.

Similarly, Vertigo Films is a British film production and film distribution company based in London, England. Vertigo Films has been responsible, for the production and distribution of Bronson, StreetDance 3D and Monsters.

When looking into which distributer would be best to distribute our film, I looked into both of the independent distributers because that would be the most realistic approach for my film and which would have the most effective distribution techniques to our films to reach our target audience. The two companies that I looked at choosing was Warp and Vertigo. I researched what genre films each of the two companies distribute and work with. This would give me a better idea of which distributer would be best for my film.

My film opening is based on a sociopathic photographer who has unreachable standards in his work and in his personal life which results in him acting in this way. This short summary shows that my film would be a psychological thriller. Therefore, I think that Warp Films would be the best distributer for our film because they tend to work more with thrillers and would know how to properly distribute our film.

Warp distributes films which are usually critically acclaimed and get nominated for awards. An example of this is the film '71' (which I saw when visiting the BFI). Despite the film being a low budget film, '71' got nominated for 8 British Independent Film Awards and won for Best Director. This example fits perfectly with our film as '71' has a niche audience because of the controversy and the violence which relates to our film through it being a thriller as well. This shows that they were able to reach the right target audience of a triller film and distribute it well. Whereas, Vertigo produces films which are for a larger and mainstream audiences, such as 'Monsters' and 'StreetDance 3D' which would have a wider audience than our film and may not target the right audience

Therefore, I decided to pick Warp Films to distribute our film from my reasoning listed.

CONSTRUCTION: RE-SHOT OF SHOPPING SCENE AFTER FEEDBACK

Our group decided that we should do a re-shoot of the filming we did in Wimbledon. This is because it was difficult to keep focus during the filming. Also it was hard to find the right time to shoot because it was busy during that time which meant there was a lot of people walking past who would get in the way and make it look as if its a three shot rather than the two shot of the two girls walking.

CONSTRUCTION: FOCUS TEASER TRAILER

Our group has made a teaser on our film "Focus". This is because it can be a great form of distribution which can be uploaded onto all our social media sources: Facebook, Twitter, Website, Tumbler and more. We have done this because it can get people excited to see the final piece after this build up.

CONSTRUCTION: LAURA MULVEY - VISUAL PLEASURE AND NARRATIVE CINEMA

Today in my lesson I have read a article written by Daniel Chandler about Laura Mulvey's gaze theory which represents visual pleasure and narrative in cinema. This is because it relates to out film and how the female protagonist is represented in our production. For example, Laura says "Men do the looking; women are there to be looked at" This shows how Women are represented in films today which has helped us in the making of our film and how we need to represent our female character.

This article is about how a film which has been called an instrument of the male gaze, producing representations of women, the good life, and sexual fantasy from a male point of view'. The concept derives from a seminal article called Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema by Laura Mulvey, a feminist film theorist. This is because in the past films use and objectify women in relation to 'the controlling male gaze' , presenting 'woman as image' to satisfy the audience. Whereas, Mulvey argues that various features of cinema viewing conditions facilitate for the viewer both the voyeuristic process of objectification of female characters and also the narcissistic process of identification with an ‘ideal ego’ seen on the screen.

Films such as James Bond have had a big impact on the way women are treated on screen. This is because they are known in the films of being 'Bond girls' which are mainly there to satisfy the male audience as the male protagonists are controlling subjects and treat women as passive objects of desire for men in both the story and in the audience which supports the theory of 'the male gaze'.

RESEARCH: TWITTER

TWITTER

I have a created a Twitter account to use for making and researching our film. I also made it because its a very big social platform which has lots of access to information which can help me and my group with finding information which can help us with developing our ideas. Its also very easily accessible for my group because if i re-tweet the information it allows my group to see it as well. This is good because it allows me to communicate with my group well and share ideas with them easily. Twitter is a very good good search engine which can compete with Google for finding information easily and quickly, for example people using trends and hash-tags which everyone can see and use.

Secondly, a reason why i chose twitter as well was because of the audience base which means it is very good for distribution about our film. This is because I looked at the stats of twitters users which is shown here:

I have also looked at Alan Rusbridger's post about how important Twitter is for some people such as distribution of film as it can create a community of people interested in what you are interested in which means you can easily share your film around with your target audience. This will help us with distributing our film as we have no distribution budget and will rely on free advertising which involves social media which is why we will use twitter.

Thirdly,  nearly all films today have a twitter page to gather all the hype towards the film before its released. This is because it gets audiences excited and ready for the film which can guarantee people to watch that movie. An example of a film that has done this is Star Wars episode 7 which was all over the media and on Twitter. Star Wars' twitter page has 2.1 million followers which gives them a big fan base on that page which can would have been used for teasers of the new film to get the audience excited towards the release. Due to the amount of media Star Wars received the film was fully booked for weeks after its released and people would even stay up in the morning to watch it on the day of release.

CONSTRUCTION: TITLE SHOT

Chloe has made the title shot on Photoshop which will be used in our film opening. This design was influenced by our film as seen in the letter 'o' which has a camera lens in the middle to represent a camera as our protagonist is a photographer. This is also shown as the text is put inside a film role to make it seem as if the title shot is a photo which was taken by our protagonist the photographer.

6. NEW TECHNOLOGIES

RESEARCH

BLOGGER
Blogger is hosting all of my other new technologies at the research and planning stage. As a multi-media social networking tool it allowed me to collate, archive, display and create research and planning with images, videos, sound files and posts that I could share with my group. It hosted all my other presentational tools, from Emaze to Slideshare,Trello and Photoshop. My blog is where everything can be found an there everything is kept. Feedback left has helped me improve my work and get it to a better standard.

ONLINE MAGAZINES

I looked at MediaMagazine to learn about the film industry, such as distribution 'Lionsgate: Can Katniss Everdeen (Dec. 2014).Here is a screenshot of the cover of the online magazine.

TWITTER
I have created 2 twitter accounts. One twitter account is for media use and my research whereas, the second twitter account is for the movie opening for my production company . Twitter is a very useful new technology platform as it help communicate with the rest of the world in a very fast and efficient way. You can also look for inspiration by looking at the your followings pages and get some ideas for your own project.

YOUTUBE
Youtube has helped me understand how our main character may behave in a photo shoot so i can take that in and copy that when it comes to our photo shoot scene. This is a video that i watched. I also made a blog post to explain the style of a photographer.

FACEBOOK

A Facebook page has been set up for our production company so that we can update is and show the progress we are making and is a way of film distribution.

INSTAGRAM

Our group has made an Instagram account were there are pictures from main title of the film to where we are on set filming. Each picture has its own cation and can be a very useful way of communicating with the audience and is also very good for the distribution of the film.

EMAZE

I have used Emaze to present some of my research such as Behaviors of Audiences as it stands out well from the colours and makes the presentation of my work look interesting.

POWERPOINT

I created some of my Art of the Titles Research on powerpoint and upload them onto slide share then put them on my blog. This is because you can get a professional look on powerpoint and is a great presentation tool and is easy to use.

PREZI

I have used Prezi on the distribution of films presentation and really liked it. This is because it presents the text in a elegant way and has unique animations to go with the text.

PLANNING

iMessage
Our group has used iMessage to keep in touch when planning.

GOOGLE DOCS

This is a sophisticated and flexible tool that enabled us to work collaboratively on the same documents wherever we are and even on a mobile device. We used it extensively when creating the shot list, the call sheets and the scriptsideas, add photos of locations, plan the blocking of movements with photos to prompt our memories and keep our ideas looking professional and easy to access. Google doc. It is flexible because we could update s let us create and share our work online and access our documents from anywhere.

TRELLO

I have used trello to keep organised and plan everything I need to do in the near future regarding my project and let me know what i have done and what i still need to do.
