PLANNING: PHOTO SHOOT SCENE
For our Film opening, we are including a scene with a photo shoot with 2 models to represent the main character and to show that he is a controlling photographer. To plan for this scene we have looked at videos of fashion shoots which will help us understand what goes on during a photo shoot and the environment in which it is set. For example, I have looked at how fashion photographer David Bailey to see what kind of shots we can use like his, here is an example:
This image can be used as one of the positions that one of our models can do during the shoot for out film opening. This is effective as well because its in black and white which suits the theme of our film.
This second shot shows how David is directing the model in which pose to do next and almost commanding her what to do. I could use this in our production to make my character seem more controlling towards the models such as David Bailey would.
We also decided to use another fashion photographer, Tim Walker who used Women in such a way which was similar to our main protagonist 'Sam'. We took an example out of his book of a picture of a female model posing in an uncomfortable way in our character interview to portray it to 'Sam' This was because it would show how 'Sam' feels towards women being treated in this way as being 'objects' to him. We decided to choose Tim Walker because he has been a fashion photographer for over 10 years and shoots for magazines which will represent these models for Tim in a similar way our main protagonist will view women.

DISTRIBUTION: WEBSITE
Every film nowadays as a basic minimum has a website which is created several months before the film is released and which hosts a group of related social media platforms, such as the films Facebook and Twitter pages. Our production company, Sabre productions, have created a suite of platforms to which we will distribute our film.
I have made our films website which was influenced by 'The Martian'
I am in charge of making sure that we have a website so i have done some research on film websites which can help me understand what they look like and what they also in include. Such as this one:
This shows a poster of the film and an overall look of what it may be about. Secondly, it has the title of the film along with certain dates of which it will be released on DVD. Thirdly, perhaps the most important feature is its interactivity; the target audience is invited to watch the trailer, make memes , download posters, pre-order and link to other social media. Finally, it has drop down bars at the top which tells us where it can be shown in each areas in cinemas.

PLANNING: STORYBOARD
In our group, Beatrice was in charge of the storyboard and has done all the illustrations of what each scene may look like on sticky notes which is good because it means they can be moved and arranged easily. Also each scene has a description of what will happen, who is in it and where its held. Furthermore, this allowed us to keep on track with filming and be more organised with what we need to film and what needs to be filmed next. Below is pictures of our story board.

PRELIMINARY EXERCISE
On Tuesday the 22nd of September, we made a short film for our preliminary to test what it was actually like to film. I was in a group with Alex and Shehzad. We had to follow the guidelines set by our teacher which was to include: someone walking into a room opening the door, have a conversation with a shot reverse shot and to remember about the 180 degree rule in the room. We then went on to make the film in the lesson which took us around an hour to film a minute of footage. This can be used as a guideline to how much time we would need to have while making our actual film later on in the year.
There were many things that we found out with are preliminary which we need to improve when it comes to our actual film. For example, the rooms that we filmed in were quite dark and it was hard to see what was happening mostly at the beginning as it was a dark corridor going up to the room. The second problem we noticed was the sound and voice, this is because when it came to the conversation we realised that some things that we said you cant quite hear in the recording. This shows us next time we will need to either move the cameras closer, speak louder or get some external sound recording systems.

RESEARCH: PETE'S MEDIA BLOG
Pete also has a twitter account which is a good resource as well because there is tweets by him related to media and also re-tweets by media companies.
Finally, I have looked at Media Magazine and an article called Selling Youth by David Buckingham which tells us about attracting a target audience for younger people. This is a helpful tool for me because this is what my production target audience will be. For example it says, "Youth marketing strategies are
participatory: they aim to get us
involved in a dialogue, to enable
us to create and distribute our own
messages, to feel as though we are
the ones in charge."

RESEARCH: PREVIOUS PRODUCTIONS
Today, I have looked at 10 previous productions made by people at our center in order for me to learn new techniques and skills when it comes making a short film/opening myself.
Firstly, I learnt how lighting can have a big effect on a certain shot of the camera and can improve the overall shot. For example, one previous film we saw showed natural light coming in through the window as the girl was lifting her wedding veil and gave a very nice effect as she was flooded with natural light. This relates to my preliminary we filmed, this is because I realized that the room we filmed in had no natural lighting and not very bright lights so it was hard to see what was happening.
Secondly, another key feature that I learnt watching the previous films was editing. This is because in some of them they used editing programs such as Adobe after effects or iMovie in order to make their opening title sequence and then to edit their clips. This was effective because it meant it had nice animations when it came to the texts on the opening. However I also learnt that the titles can also be made without editing software. For example, one that I watched had guitar picks along the guitar showing each of their names which related to their rock and roll style film. Therefore, it is just as easy to make the title sequence while filming than on software.
Finally, the last thing I learnt from watching the previous movies was the sound. For example, in one that I watched was a horror movie where it had a voice over of a poem. (The Raven by Edgar Allen) This was effective for the movie because it created the atmosphere with the movie and the tension and up building of the movie. I learnt that the sound is very important and a voice over may have helped in our preliminary because our speech was very quiet and sometimes couldn't hear what was being said.

RESEARCH: ART OF THE TITLE LES BLUES DE RAMVILLE
I watched the opening sequence for Les Blues De Ramville it was a sport and action genre film. This is because it is all based around an icy hockey match and the buildup towards this match. The people who are mentioned in the titles are the most important people and the most important roles. For example, Stephan Paquette's name comes up next to the hockey mast which signifies that he is one of the main hockey players and the main character.
However, in the titles, there are no production company that is mentioned. This could be because it is show at the end credits which could be done to make the audience remember the production company better if they see the production companies name last.
The Mise-En-Scene in the opening makes it very effective. For example, there are old video recordings on a table, hockey masks and ice skates. This is done because it reflects to what is happening in the movie, such as the hockey boots being put on represents them getting ready for the game and the build up for the big game.
The editing in the movie is what makes it so good. This is because it uses a lot of different camera angles and a slow motion shot. For example, there are many pans and zooms that are used along with low angle shots. The slow motion is used when a player gets hit into the wall. The slow motion makes this more effective because it highlights the impact of the player getting hit into the wall.
The music is linked with the editing. This is because when there are parts in slow motion the music is slowed down in tempo, but when there are more fast pace actions in the opening the music relates to this and the tempo increases.

RESEARCH: ART OF THE TITLE: IRON MAN 3
Iron Man Three is an action film that is shown in this opening scene by having the snap shots of each frame in an action shot. This, is good because it allows the audience to see that this movie will be packed full of action through out the movie. The reason why the frames are on the action shots is to make it so that there isn't many boring scenes which people may dislike in action scenes.
The people mentioned in the titles are the most import at the beginning. For example, it has the the director come up first on the titles which is done because its one of the most important roles. Another main feature it has in the titles is when it comes up with the actors name in the 2 shot with the person inside the Iron Man Three suit kissing the suit. This is effective because it shows both of the two characters each in their different life's how he lives by his dangerous sides of his life. Finally, on the very last frame it has the title of the movie Iron Man Three this is in the center of the screen and in large text to introduce the movie.
The production company that was involved in the making of Iron Man Three was Marvel studios productions. The production company is displayed as the second last title on the frames. This is done because it makes the audience more likely to remember who they are. Therefore, if the audience would enjoy the film then they would remember which company made it and could be interested in other movies by them.
The editing of the opening is effective because every time there is a title frame coming up it would freeze on an action shot of a person or thing related to the title texts. This has been done by stop motion and changing the reality of the movie into a picture to introduce the text. The sound is also effective because it makes the opening seem more intense which relates to its genre of an action movie. Its also effective because the music makes it sound like an old comic series opening which relates to Marvels background.
The Mise-en-scene of the opening is effective because it also relates it to the title frames. For example when it shows who made the music it has pictures of record players.

RESEARCH: TITLE SEQUENCE NOWHERE BOY
Firstly, the film is introduced by the production company such as Film 4, Icon and UK Film council, which was supported by The National Lottery.
In the beginning of the film we are presented with a grand, big and historical building in Liverpool in the establishing shot to introduce to where the film will take place. In this opening scene there is the old style rock and roll music which links with the protagonist when he is running through the building, in a low angle shot, who seems like he isn't remotely intimidated by how grand the building is and makes it seems like its his own and its his playground which shows his rebellious nature which is foreshadowing the later events.
The next scene functions effectively as a film opening in that it sets up the central conflict of the drama: that between Aunt Mimi and John Lennon. In the protagonists room, when he is woken up from his dream when he is running through the grand building. When he is woken up we are introduced to the second character called Mimi who is raising up John Lennon. The scene where he gets woken up by his Aunt shows how strict she is and no showing any love towards him, this is show how she commands him by knocking on his door until he gets up and introduces the relationship between the two and how Aunt Mimi plans on raising John Lennon up.
The next scene introduces another character who is John's Uncle George, this is effective because it shows the other side of how John is raised. This is established when both of them come to sit down at the table to eat their breakfast and have their secret conversation about the..... This implies how both of them have teen like synergy between each other like best friends and not as a parent and son figure. This also allows John to get away from Mimi who has the opposite ways of George as it seems as she is raising both George and John which is shown by her making both of them breakfast at the same time as if they are brothers being raised by Mimi.
The next scene opens with the music and John getting on his bike ready to go off to school with his friend. Although as he leaves Mimi is standing by the window commanding John to put his glasses on in a similar way to how she got John out of bed, without any politeness towards him. Its then cuts to John and his friend riding down a road on their bike with the credits showing the films that are in associate with the Northwest Vision, Media, Lip Sync Productions, Hanway Films and Ecosse Films Production. The music playing has the lyrics "Wild Child" which links with Johns nature in his life where all he wants to be is a classic rock and roll bad boy in the 1950's
The director is announced in the text as Sam Taylor-Woods and is followed by the Title of the film "Nowhere Boy" after the headmaster has his talk with John about him going nowhere and him because a nowhere boy.
